About Us

We are altogether known as Canidae/Canidae Collective, any pronouns collectively work. We're a 2003 permakid canine who never grew up, and an autistic, adaptive system. Click the icons below to learn more about some of us as individual alters, or scroll down to read more about us as a collective being.

Queer

A broad term to encompass all of our varying attractions

Aceflux

Our sexual attraction fluctuates between allosexual and asexual.

Non-Binary

We do not identify within the binary of male/female, see next

System-Fluid

A genderfluid identity that just means our gender identity changes and fluctuates depending on what alter is fronting

Trans-species

We don't see ourselves as human, and are altering our vessel/transitioning to reflect it in the shared reality.

Permakid

We internally see ourselves as kids (at least the main hosts do,) and let ourselves be such. We feel we will always ('perma') be a kid.

We've been a furry since pretty young, since about 2013, known we are nonhuman since about 2014, and plural since about 2017. Our special interests encompass anything related to furries/anthropomorphic animal characters, alter/nonhumanity, and adjacent 'animalistic' communities. Also usually animals in general tbh. We're also a littlefur and brony!

We like collecting all sorts of toys and plushies - faves are Disney classic animals, PlayMobil, Littlest Pet Shop. We like all sorts of cartoons, television, and movies. We go to raves a bit and like to dance in fursuit as well as do outings. It's very difficult for us to make close friends for many reasons, but we look for the good in everyone and greatly enjoy all the interactions we have with our communities and seeing folks thrive around us.

We are mentally/neurologically disabled and struggle with sensory input, memory, consistency, social interactions, and communication. We may take a while to respond, or admittedly forget to at all (feel free to double text us!!) We alternate between saying we/us and I/me, and between posting separately/'signing off' alters, or collectively.

Nonhumanity

General/Current

We see our autism/neurodivergency as inseparable from our species. We believe many of our struggles truly relate more to our nonhumanity than it does human autism, but the symptoms & accomodations can align enough that the label helps - especially day to day in human society. We also see our gender as inseparable from our species, as we do not resonate with human societys' constructs of gender. Our genderfluidity label depends largely on us presenting ourselves in certain ways/styles, but we are largely genderless at heart, just a canine.

Timeline

Grades featured because our brain counts time easier that way

2012 and before

We have always felt nonhuman. Before we knew what labels to put to our experiences as a chrono-kid, our species/shifts were much more fluid and playful, not weighed by expectation - yet it was always very real. Some days we'd be a tiger, then a wolf or a dog, maybe a velociraptor, but it would always activate us to our core. We luckily grew up around a hearty group of 'weird kids' who accepted our 'play.' We'd often shift ('get very in character/into the game,') into a creature, and not stop behaving as such until our parents came to shout at us to come inside. Down to snarling in retaliation, threats of biting or clawing, and not speaking English, and reacting to the other kids as poachers, hunters, circus masters, knights getting to a hoard, etc.

2013-2014 / 4th/5th grade :

We first found any vocabulary for our animalistic feelings and our beginning interests in Warrior Cats --> Furries --> Therianthrope/Otherkin communitites sparked in school computer labs and our iPod touch, forums, Amino, early Instagram, etc.Gatekeeping, grilling, and hostility were unfortunately rampant in the spaces we were in. We spent many years questioning our identity, but for years refused to allow ourselves to explore canines due to the amount of fakeclaiming towards them within the community at the time. We did not feel comfortable and right being a canine until around 2018-2020ish.

2019-2020 / 10th/11th grade :

I believe around here we started using the term transspecies

2021-2022 / 12th grade + :

2023-2024 :

Started exploring shifter spaces

Within the past few years (2022-present,) as we have done research and opened our mind - we have finally allowed ourselves to explore the physicality of our nonhumanity. There is no human here past our facade & conditioning from society. When the veil lifts, we are a canine. We are pursuing meta/physical shifting. We have yet to fully physically shift but have had promising signs/symptoms. Got belly nips + top surgery

Plurality

General/Current

We are an adaptive system of around nine alters total. The ones featured on this site are only those who wanted to be featured. We have been in therapy, and aware of our plurality for a long time now, and day-to-day tend to function alright. We have breakdowns, internal conflict, amnesia, and heavy dissociation still - but it is much less frequent and intense than it used to be. We're very proud of that :)

Typically, our two hosts switch anywhere from every few days or few weeks, depending on stressors and positive triggers. We balance the daily workloads and one can take over if something is upsetting enough to need a break, but not enough to trigger out another alter. Other alters are sometimes co-conscious, providing input or passive influence to the host. Most of the time though, other alters only fully front in specific situations they are triggered out for.

Timeline [CW : Self-harm, general abuse, bullying, neglect]

Grades featured because our brain counts time easier that way

2013-2014 / 4th/5th grade :

Earliest memories of voices that were "not ours" (whatever/whoever that was before we knew we could be anything other than [DEAD NAME]) started around here. They were persecutory, cruel voices; we often got in trouble/scolded for reporting them. The lack of care from adults around us was part of what started us being deeply depressed throughout our remaining school years. We found sometimes we could reason with them by hurting ourselves or drawing certain things. Mostly they were just random and unrelenting. They behaved like an older bully (we named the voice Calvin at the time, idk if there was any reason,) and another was like an impressionable younger child, (we nicknamed The Kid.) This became more evident the older our vessel got. The Kid could be easier to reason with, and could actually have occasional conversations unrelated to cruelty. We believe they both might be 'early forms' of our current persecutor Ghost.

2015-2016 / 6th/7th grade :

Around middle school/2015-16, we started hearing a few other voices. At the time they mostly resembled a couple characters and creators that comforted us. We chalked them up to our active imagination; imaginary friends - and that we were just 'crazy' like others had said. They were kind, so we embraced them and didnt really question them. One was a caring voice, at the time disembodied but caring, patient, and soft. Faint. We believe they became our soother Carole. The other, Markiplier! We've been watching him for 10+ years and especially at this time he was a large role model and comfort. He felt much more present, and like another 'real person' than 'just a voice.' We are unsure if Mark is still around, is dormant, or potentially fused with our other protector Micah.

Later in this time frame, we finally actually started researching our experiences, as we got more exposed to mental illness/disorder education/posts spreading online. We didn't think we fit into the things we did know of like bipolar or schizophrenia, and we didn't know about dissociative disorders until later. What we did find, were those that desired similar experiences - tulpamancers. We got entrenched in it, autistic-ly talking to everyone in school about it, as if that helped our case. But, we had eventually created Cassius; a navy blue symbiote. He was our one truely created headmate. He was curious, gentle, and thoughtful. We are unsure if he is still around or dormant. Eventually we had also 'created' Carole; a white indoraptor, but she ended up more just becoming a face for the previously mentioned existing voice. It was at this point our experiences we shared in spaces like Tulpa Amino and Discord servers made people point us more towards Dissociative Identity Disorder. We did a lot of research, and this was the year we started identifying our symptoms with the term typically.

2017-2018 / 8th/9th grade :

At around this time we got into a handful of pro-self harm and eating disorder servers. Our persecutor Ghost ended up fronting a lot during this time with Coyote and fell very deeply into a dissociated, depressed, suicidal void.

2019-2020 / 10th/11th grade :

Dream SMP, very hectic, self harm cult + peak of delusions/hallucinations, peak of self harm+Tommy + Micah, +Coyote?+Pup?

2021-2022 / 12th grade + :

In 2021 we went to a psych ward and split Dear who seemed to keep us sane and played games, stayed friendly and positive at times while we were there for our relatively short 10 day stay.

'Ettiquette' / Interaction Guide

A trimmed version of this list from Hungry Ghosts!

What do you go by collectively?

  • When addressing all of us together/as a collective entity, any pronouns work! We go by Canidae or (the) Canidae Collective.

Who are people most likely to interact with?

  • Our primary host, Coyote, or our secondary host Pup

How should people refer to you?

  • We can be addressed collectively (as Canidae,) or as Coyote (primary host) by default/assumption. Otherwise, if a member makes themselves known, please address them as their own individual person with their preferred terms.

What terms do you/do you not prefer?

  • All the following terms are okay with us : alter, headmate, sysmate, system member - adaptive, traumagenic, DID/OSDD, disordered, dissociative, mixed origin, quoigenic - system, plural, collective, multiple, probably others. 'Parts' & 'personalities' we generally don't like.

Will people be interacting with any child members? Is there anything they should know when interacting with them?

  • Yes, we are altogether intellectually more around tween-teen, with our hosts both being mental age sliders ranging around 4-16. But we have the life experience of an adult and - when we are choosing to be online talking - can handle most adult/sensitive topics in discussions at most times. You do not need to interact with us if that makes you uncomfortable.

Do you have any internal communication difficulties, memory issues, etc that others should be mindful of?

  • Our main two hosts typically have fairly low amnesia barriers, and can swap day-to-day information/memories fairly easily. Any other alters however, we have higher amnesia barriers and may forget interactions. Please be patient if we forget things, it's not on purpose x.x

What are your boundaries for others asking about fronting?

  • If you don't know who's fronting, you are welcome to ask! Or just address us collectively. You can also ask to speak to someone who isn't fronting - but it will likely be more like passing a message. We still often struggle with triggering out alters at will.

Your stance on being asked questions? (about personal experience, preferences, plurality in general, etc)

  • Ask away! So long as you don't have ill intent we'll usually gladly yap about ourselves or interests lol, and we love to educate about our communities.

How out are you? Do you have a 'singletsona?'

  • We are mostly out. Out online, to friends, and handler. We don't tell people we are plural out of nowhere or when introducing ourselves typically (unless we are talking to someone else who is plural or an explicitly pro-plural space,) but we don't mind talking about it if the topic comes up. Our family knows we have OSDD/DID, but they just haven't asked for more details and we haven't offered. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So with them and most passing interactions we do have a "singletsona" name we go by.

Stances

We are usually open to brief civil discussion/debate

Less Niche Stances

Overall considered U.S. 'left-leaning;' free Palestine, ACAB, pro-choice + overall bodily autonomy, and anti-fascist. Don't tolerate intolerance. We still support self defense, & armed minorities are harder to oppress. We believe in spreading radical compassion and acceptance.

Self-Identification

We have no inherent issues with any form of transness, queerness, non/alterhumanity, plurality, & most self expression in general. Generally, we support good-faith non-gender trans-identities. We have complex opinions on some of them, but generally support breaking down social structures that divide us. Just don't hurt non-consenting parties in real life.

Fiction, Censorship

We consider ourselves very staunchly anti-censorship - even for things that we dislike, or what makes us uncomfortable - & believe in freedom of fiction/'pro-fiction.' Fiction can and does affect reality, but not in a 1:1 way. Someone's taste in fiction - taboo or not, no matter what it's like - does not inherently make them a bad person, or mean have any desire to even interact with said topics in the real world/shared reality. It is your responsibility to create/consume fiction that you personally can interact with or share in a safe manner. We believe common internet ettiquete should be to tag your content accurately and effectively, mainly taboo, 'sensitive,' explicit, etc. content, so that others can avoid triggering content and easier manage their browsing. Just don't hurt non-consenting parties in real life.

Kink, Paraphilia

We are sex positive, pro-kink/Risk Aware Consensual Kink, and paraphile friendly. Bottom line, someone's thoughts or fantasies - no matter what they are - do not inherently make them a bad person, or mean they desire to/plan to act on said thoughts in the real world/shared reality. Talking/writing/posting about it doesn't make them a bad person either. Ignoring, ostracizing, or breaking down paraphiles contributes to more abuse, not less. We do not view all paraphiles as disordered (and dislike broad pathologizing of harmless thoughts or attractions... psychiatry is good at doing this,) - only if their attractions are causing significant distress, or encouraging harmful IRL action. We are anti-abuse & pro-consent above all. Just don't hurt non-consenting parties in real life.

TLDR; Thog dont caare unless you are meaningfully, nonconsensually, hurting an actual being in real life/the shared reality in some way. If you're not causing or directly contributing to harm/fascism, 99% chance you're fine in our book.
